"What is your skin type?" can be a perplexing question to answer, particularly when you have characteristics from two different skin types. Allow the experts here at Impress® to help you determine your personal skin type and how to take excellent care of it.
What is normal skin?
"Normal" refers to skin with an overall well-balanced production of sebum and moisture. When you have normal skin, the T-zone, which encompasses the forehead, nose area, and chin, has a healthy glow. Your skin is neither too oily nor too dry.You are very lucky if you have normal skin. It is the least common skin type and the least problematic. If your skin type is normal, then your face is likely to have:
- Fine pores
- A velvety, soft and smooth texture
- A fresh, rosy color and uniform transparency
- No blemishes
- Good blood circulation
Let us first learn more about the dry skin type before we discuss your skin care options for age-induced dryness.
What is dry skin?
"Dry" describes a skin type that produces less sebum than normal skin. Due to the lack of sebum, dry skin has difficulty retaining moisture and building a protective barrier against external influences. Dry skin can be hereditary, but environmental factors such as cold and hot temperatures, wind, and pollution can sneakily strip away even more essential moisture from the skin.If you do not address your dry skin with the right skincare products, then it can:
- Feel tight and brittle
- Feel mildly or extremely rough to the touch
- Look dull and uneven
- Develop mild scaling or flakiness in patches
- Cause irritation, redness, and an itchy sensation that can lead to open sores or infections when scratched
- Cause fine lines and wrinkles to look more exaggerated, which can make you look older than you really are
Drying skin is common with aging. The Impress® Deep Hydrating Moisturizer provides essential moisture to hydrate and keep your skin supple for maximum anti-aging benefits. Impress’ moisturizer contains the NEWEST BREAKTHROUGH in moisturizers: L22. L22 is a patented formula of botanically-sourced lipids developed specifically to deliver and rebalance the skin-lipid profile of a healthy 22 year old to help you maintain youthful hydrated beautiful skin. Add this breakthrough moisturizer to your cart now and begin experiencing the gentle yet powerful skin-rejuvenating difference.
What is oily skin?
"Oily" explains a skin type with heightened sebum production. A shiny or greasy T-zone, enlarged pores, and blemishes are all tell-tale signs of oily skin. This skin type feels greasy to the touch, but on the plus side, it is rarely dry or tight. Oily skin also tends to age slower than normal and dry skin because it is more resilient to external agents and environmental factors.A number of different issues trigger the overproduction of sebum, such as:
- Genetics
- Hormonal changes and imbalances
- High levels of stress
- Fluctuations in humidity
- Using comedogenic cosmetics or makeup products that cause skin irritation
- Skipping your moisturizer
Oily skin attracts more dust and grime, which makes this skin type prone to breakouts. A crucial step to preventing comedones from forming is to wash your face with a cleanser that removes surface dirt and oil. The Impress® Foaming Cleanser offers the perfect solution to removing trapped surface dirt and oil without stripping or drying.
Second, while most people with oily skin shy away from moisturizing; it is actually an important step. Your skin's ability to overproduce natural oil is not the same as hydration. Oily skin that feels dry or stripped can trigger more oil production instead. Using the Impress® Deep Hydrating Moisturizer increases the water content in your skin and prevents further oiliness.
What is combination skin?
Combination skin features two or more different skin types on your face. The condition of your skin may fluctuate between seasons. The characteristics of combination skin include:
- An oily T-zone
- Enlarged pores in the T-zone, and perhaps with impurities
- Normal to dry skin on the cheeks
Similar to dry and oily skin types, the dry areas of combination skin are caused by a lack of sebum and a corresponding lipid deficiency, while the oily parts of combination skin are a result of an overproduction of sebum.
The Impress® Deep Hydrating Moisturizer and Foaming Cleanser combine to rebalance all skin types. They can make a huge difference in the appearance of your skin; regardless of your skin type.
If you wear makeup or spend considerable time outdoors, then another product to add to your skincare regimen is the Impress® PrimeShade® Makeup Primer and Sunscreen. Its non-comedogenic and non-greasy formula does not clog pores, which makes it perfect for oily T-zones and acne-prone skin. We designed it to be the ultimate primer for makeup application, and it simultaneously provides a full spectrum of natural minerals-based protection against harmful ultraviolet rays from the sun; the leading cause of premature skin aging.
What about sensitive skin?
Sensitive skin refers to a range of conditions; from genetic skin diseases to severe allergies. Some people can have a negative skin reaction at some point or another to an ingredient in cosmetics or skincare, and others with persistent issues classify as having sensitive skin. Therefore, it is crucial to choose products that are sulfate-free and paraben-free.Eliminating harsh chemicals from your skincare avoids triggering your genetic skin problems and allergies. The products in our skincare line are both sulfate- and paraben-free to help you achieve your healthiest and most youthful skin ever. Plus, we are 100 percent cruelty-free.
